Terms of Service

Open Source Icon helps you find and use open-source icons. We bring the icon libraries together and provide search, recoloring, downloads, bookmarks, editor and design-tool extensions, an icon API and an MCP server for coding agents. These terms describe your rights and responsibilities when you use the website, the API and the permanent icon links under opensourceicon.com/cdn/. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the service.

Every icon belongs to the library that made it and keeps its own open-source license — MIT, Apache 2.0, CC BY 4.0, SIL OFL and others. We make those icons easier to find and use; we do not own them, we do not relicense them, and downloading one here does not change its terms.

Check the license before you ship an icon: every library page names it and links to the source. Some licenses require attribution, and meeting that requirement is your responsibility.

You can search, copy and download icons without an account. An account adds bookmarks, folders and a profile. Give accurate details, keep your sign-in details to yourself, and tell us if you think someone else is using your account: what happens under it is your responsibility. One account per person, and you need to be at least 16 years old to create one. Creating an account also means you accept our Privacy Policy.

You can delete the account yourself at any time. Settings → Delete account emails you a confirmation link that is valid for one hour; opening it in the browser where you are signed in removes the account, its sessions, its profile, its bookmarks and folders, its social links and its license key straight away. It cannot be undone, and short-lived technical logs are the one thing it does not reach.

Open Source Icon is free and has no paid plans today. Visitors who are not signed in get 20 searches in any 24 hours; a free account removes that limit. Copying, downloading and browsing are never limited. Please do not get around the allowance with scripts, proxies or extra accounts.

Icon search, whole icon sets and our extensions use the free license key on your account. It belongs to you alone: keep it private, do not share it, publish it, resell it or work around it, and regenerate it in Settings if it ever leaks. Anything done with your key counts as done by you.

The API is there for your own apps, editor extensions and design tools, and you may cache its responses on your side. Do not crawl the whole catalog through it — the open-source Iconify packages exist for that and are the better fit — and do not resell access to it. The VS Code extension, the Figma plugin and the MCP server stay subject to these terms and to the original licenses of the icons you retrieve with them. We may rate-limit, suspend a key, or block traffic that degrades the service for other people.

The site design, the code, the written copy, the collection curation and the Open Source Icon name and logo are ours. Link to any page freely; do not copy the site wholesale, present it as your own service, or use our name or logo in a way that suggests we built or endorse your product. Do not interfere with the service, attempt unauthorized access, introduce malicious code, send anything unlawful through it, or use automated systems in a way that harms Open Source Icon or the people using it.

We may add, change or remove features, libraries, API parameters and pages as the service develops, and it can be unavailable during maintenance or for reasons outside our control. Permanent icon links are meant to keep working; if a library removes an icon, its link stops resolving with it. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, threatens the service or creates legal or security risk, and where it is reasonable we will tell you why first. Icons you already downloaded remain usable under their original licenses.

The website, the icon data, the API and the extensions are provided “as is” and as available, without warranties of any kind to the extent the law permits, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy of icon metadata or license information, and non-infringement. You decide whether an icon is right for your project.

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages, lost profits or lost data, nor for claims arising from your use of an icon or from the service being unavailable. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

When these terms change we update the date at the top of this page, and if a change materially affects people with an account we say so by email or inside the product before it takes effect. Using the service after a change means you accept the new version. These terms are governed by the laws of the country where Open Source Icon is operated, unless mandatory consumer law where you live gives you the right to bring a claim locally.
